As part of our All the Way Home campaign to end veteran homelessness, the Housing Authority is inviting apartment owners and landlords to participate in their “Be A Hero” program. “Be a Hero” is incentivizing apartment owners to rent to homeless veterans. The Housing Authority is hosting an informational meeting about their subsidy program and incentives for apartment owners. All landlords and apartment owners in Santa Clara County are invited to join us.
The meeting is on Wednesday, December 2nd at 6pm at the Housing Authority, 505 West Julian St. Please RSVP.
Giving Tuesday (#GIVINGTUESDAY)
Today is Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to generosity and giving back in the midst of the holiday shopping season. We encourage you to participate with us and if you are able, consider giving in support of our work in ending homelessness. This is by far the most difficult time of year for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and as we are reminded of our good fortune, we have the individual and collective ability to make a difference. Every dollar donated to Destination:Home will go towards ending homelessness in Santa Clara County.
Making a Difference – Lyn Strong
We celebrate Lyn Strong, a longtime Santa Clara County resident who cares deeply about helping homeless individuals in her community. Lyn has donated many hours to serving meals at Loaves and Fishes and was selected as their Volunteer of the Year in 2012. Lyn is retired and recently experienced good fortune that prompted her to pay it forward. Her familiarity with Destination: Home’s vision and goals led her to select us as the recipient of a $15,000 gift.
With Lyn’s support, we have created the Strong Fund to help furnish the homes of veterans exiting homelessness, with 100% of the fund going to providing move-in supplies and furniture for the men and women we serve.
