Dear Community Partners,

It’s estimated that over 700 veterans are homeless in Santa Clara County and 63% go unsheltered every night…that is unacceptable.

On Veterans Day, the City of San Jose, the County of Santa Clara, the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Clara and Destination: Home formally launched a campaign to address this community crisis and bring veterans All the Way Home.

We are partnering with our community’s consortium of service providers including Veteran’s Voices, Abode Services, United Way Silicon Valley, HomeFirst, Goodwill of Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale Community Services, InnVision Shelter Network and others to ensure more housing resources are available for homeless veterans. This collaboration was inspired by First Lady Michelle Obama’s 2015 Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness, in partnership with the Veteran’s Administration and Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The campaign will work with landlords and apartment owners to increase access to rental units for homeless veterans and their families. Outreach will also be made to corporations and faith based groups to aid with land acquisition, housing development, access to rental units, financial assistance and services. If you are a landlord or apartment owner and would like more information, please email Julia.burkhead@hacsc.org.
