In a year defined by a global pandemic and the havoc it has brought on our community, the importance of a home has never been more clear. And that’s why we’ve spent the past year fighting to protect the health and well-being of our neighbors experiencing or at-risk of homelessness during this unprecedented time.
None of this would have been possible if it weren’t for the heroic efforts of our hundreds of public, private, philanthropic and nonprofit partners – and the thousands of individuals who’ve donated or volunteered their time to this collective effort.
And so, we wanted to take this time to wish you a very Happy Holidays and extend a heartfelt THANK YOU for your commitment to helping serve our most vulnerable neighbors.
Since the COVID-19 crisis began, we’ve joined a broad coalition of community partners to:
- Provide more than $23 million in rental and financial assistance to over 12,000 low-income households in need.
- Support our County and City emergency operations team in connecting more than 3,300 vulnerable homeless individuals to temporary housing or shelter.
- Deliver meals, mobile shower and sanitation services, tents, tarps and other supplies to individuals living in encampments.
- Distribute more than 100,000 pieces of personal protective equipment to shelters, outreach teams, backpack doctors and other frontline partners serving vulnerable residents.
And even while we shifted gears to respond to the immediate emergency, our supportive housing system partners have still been able to connect just under 1,400 more than 1,000 of our homeless neighbors to permanent housing.
